Mike Adams, the Padres' eighth-inning specialist, is a shoe guy.
Specifically, a Nike guy.
He's got a collection of more than 100 shoes, which he keeps squeaky clean. He gets them airbrushed to match Padres uniforms. He grew up idolizing Michael Jordan and needs two lockers in the clubhouse to store his kicks.
Adams had the chance to tour the Nike ShoeZeum recently, a warehouse in San Diego's Old Town that is a sneakerhead's dream. The 9,000 square foot ShoeZeum - created by USD law and business school graduate Jordan Geller - houses more than 2000 Nike sneakers, including rare finds from the Air Jordan collection.
"It was awesome," said Adams, who reminisced about his days as a high school basketball phenom in Sinton, TX, as shoes gave way to memories. "Way more than I expected."
Geller will open the ShoeZeum to the public Thursday, selling tickets on E-bay for $23.23 (Michael Jordan's number). Tickets can be bought here.
